Teletubbies mural

A local nursery commissioned me to brighten up their playroom with soom popular children's T.V characters. Not a very difficult job, but it was important to think about what children best respond to; bold contrasting colours, and a positive atmosphere. It is not a good idea to paint on radiators, as the paint will crack and fall off, so instead I incorporated it into the scene, making it look like the teletubbies were resting on it/peeking out from it.

Note that for large areas such as sky, I use emulsion because whilst it is not as easy to work with as acrylics, it cuts down costs as it is much cheaper than acrylic paint.

Thomas the Tank Engine mural

Same nursery, different wall. Again, this is a relatively simple and not too expensive mural that the kids loved. It is not necessarily the size of the mural that dictates the cost, but the intricacy of the work involved.

Winnie the Pooh mural

This 3rs mural within the nursery completes the set. Three walls, three different scenes, but all quite simple designs.

Kaa – The Python from the Jungle Book

Here is an example of something on a smaller scale. This customer' little boy loved ‘The Jungle book' and snakes, and was elated with this creepy but colourful character looking down on him in his bed. Note the ‘not too intimidating' expression on Kaa's face. I didn't want to give the little chap nightmares.

Dinosaur mural

This is a prime example of a children's mural that doesn't involve any main stream cartoon characters. All that was requested initially from this young man was a whole wall of his bedroom dedicated to dinosaurs.

We bounced a few ideas around before I suggested making it more of an action mural which he loved. As with many commissions, the customer wanted to make the room look bigger so rather than simply painting dinosaurs onto the wall which would have looked rather flat, we decided to make it look as though a hole had been smashed through, creating the illusion that you could look into another world. The hanging wallpaper, and dinosaurs coming through added to the depth of the piece.
